Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Personal items and third-party liability not fully covered
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~50 HP engine burn roughly 4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 84 L ≈ €164 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
What if you decide I can't safely handle the boat?
The boat must be under the command of someone holding a valid nautical licence. If we judge that the licence holder's knowledge or ability isn't sufficient for everyone's safety, we may require you to take a captain at your expense; otherwise the charter may be cancelled.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You may use the boat only for pleasure cruising between safe ports and anchorages within the agreed cruising area, and you must not leave Italian territorial waters without our written consent.
What is not allowed on board or during the charter?
You can't transport goods or passengers commercially, give sailing lessons, take part in races or regattas without our written authorisation, tow or be towed except in an emergency, or keep animals, firearms or drugs on board.
What are the bad-weather rules?
You must follow the authorities' instructions and not leave port, or head to the nearest safe harbour if already sailing, when wind or sea are at or forecast above force 5 on the Beaufort scale, or when conditions threaten the safety of the boat or crew.
What should I do if something breaks during the charter?
Tell us in writing within 24 hours of any failure or damage. You may keep sailing only if it won't worsen the damage or endanger anyone, and you must get our written consent on price and suitability before any repair so we can reimburse you afterwards.
