Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Boat covered by all-risk insurance with benefit transferred to renter for duration of charter. Insurance covers hull damage, theft, total loss, civil liability, defense and recourse, recovery fees, and partial theft with break-in.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~18 HP engine burn roughly 1.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 29 L ≈ €57 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in France?
No formal licence is legally required to skipper a bareboat sailing yacht, though charter companies expect a sailing résumé and usually an ICC or equivalent.
Do I need to tell you about my sailing experience?
Yes. As skipper you confirm you have the sea and sailing knowledge to take responsibility for the boat and a competent crew, and we ask you to fill in and return a short nautical-references form about your experience.
Are there limits on where I can sail?
Yes. The permitted sailing area runs between 60 degrees North and 30 degrees South, and between 20 degrees West and 38 degrees East. Boats are also certified to carry only the number of people shown on the builder's plate.
Can I use the boat for anything other than leisure?
No. The boat is for recreational use only. You may not use it for any commercial activity, professional fishing, paid transport, or similar.
What should I do if something breaks while we're at sea?
For minor damage that doesn't stop your cruise, you may repair or replace the item as long as it costs no more than 300 euros. For anything bigger, contact us straight away or as soon as you reach a port and follow our instructions; we'll reimburse approved costs against receipts.
What condition should the boat be in when I return it?
Please bring the boat back to the home port in good working order and clean, with the fuel tank refilled, since it is handed to you with a full tank. A member of our team needs to inspect it on return.
