Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: Charterer liable for loss or damage to yacht and equipment except where covered by insurance policy and not caused by gross negligence or willful default.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~90 HP engines burn roughly 7.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 151 L ≈ €294 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You may cruise within the Greek seas only. Taking the yacht outside this area, or subletting her, requires our written consent.
How should I plan my route?
Please plan so that you reach the farthest port from your return point within the first third of your charter. In the final two days the yacht should lie no more than 40 nautical miles from the return point.
Can I race or use the boat for anything other than cruising?
The yacht is for the private pleasure of you and your party only. Racing is only allowed if agreed in advance and a racing-risk insurance is paid. Towing other craft (except in an emergency) and any commercial use are not permitted, and fishing or archaeological-object offences under Greek law are prohibited.
Does my crew need to be experienced?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your competence by handling the yacht at sea with us aboard, and if you don't satisfy us we can put a skipper on board at your cost for as long as is needed for safety.
When should I not leave port?
Don't leave port or anchorage if the harbour authorities have banned sailing, if the yacht has unrepaired damage, if fuel reserves are low, or whenever the weather, the boat or the crew make safety doubtful. Never sail at night without all navigation lights working, and only sail areas your charts cover well.
