Halicarnassus Mausoleum

This is the actual site of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — the tomb of Mausolus, built around 350 BC and so impressive it gave us the word 'mausoleum.' Most of it is long gone, but the ruins sit right in the heart of Bodrum and the small on-site museum does a solid job of helping you picture what once stood 45 meters tall, adorned with reliefs carved by four different Greek sculptors. It's humbling to stand somewhere this historically loaded, and it's only a 10-minute walk from the waterfront.
