Venetian Arsenals
Ηράκλειο
attraction· 3 min from marina (169m)
The Venetian Arsenals are among the best-preserved examples of Venetian naval architecture in the entire Mediterranean — these massive stone boathouses date back to the 13th century and were built to shelter and repair the Venetian fleet that once ruled these seas. Walking through the arched vaults gives you a real sense of just how dominant this maritime empire once was. You can still make out the individual dry-dock bays where warships were hauled in and maintained, making it a genuinely fascinating slice of Heraklion's layered history.
