This is the site of Naxos, the first Greek colony ever established in Sicily, dating back to 734 BC — which makes it one of the most historically significant spots on the entire island. Set on the Capo Schiso headland near the port, you can walk through the excavated ruins and explore the on-site museum packed with artifacts pulled straight from the ground here. There's something quietly powerful about standing on land that's been continuously significant for nearly 3,000 years. Don't skip the museum even if ruins aren't usually your thing — the ceramics and finds here are surprisingly compelling.
