Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Owner provides insurance covering guest liability. Guest affirms captain has necessary knowledge and experience for planned navigation and required permits per Maritime Affairs.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~90 HP engines burn roughly 7.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 151 L ≈ €294 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in France?
No formal licence is legally required to skipper a bareboat sailing yacht, though charter companies expect a sailing résumé and usually an ICC or equivalent.
Do I need sailing experience to charter this catamaran?
Yes – this is a bareboat charter, so the person in charge must have the knowledge and experience to take responsibility for the boat and the planned voyage. We reserve the right to decline handover if the skipper or crew don’t appear sufficiently competent.
Can I sail at night?
Night sailing is only permitted with our prior written consent, so please arrange this with us in advance if you plan to be at sea after dark.
How may I use the boat during the charter?
The boat is strictly for private leisure cruising – commercial use, professional fishing, transport for hire and racing are not allowed. You also must not sublet or lend the boat to anyone else, and you should never carry more people on board than the boat is authorised for.
Are there limits on where I can sail?
You’re asked to stay within the navigation area we set and follow local maritime regulations. As a safety planning point, you should arrange not to be more than 40 nautical miles from the return port two days before your charter ends.
What condition should the boat be returned in?
Please return the boat clean and tidy, emptied of luggage and people, with the fuel tank full. A cleaning service fee does not replace your responsibility to hand the boat back clean.
When is the best time to sail in France?
April–October on the Riviera and Corsica; warm summers with the gusty Mistral funnelling down the Gulf of Lion in spring and autumn.
