Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer responsible for all damages not covered by insurance
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~160 HP engines burn roughly 12.8 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 269 L ≈ €525 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Might we have to prove we can handle the yacht?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your sailing, seamanship and navigation skills by taking the yacht out with our representative aboard. If you don't satisfy us, we can end the agreement or put a seaman on board at your cost, so please state your experience honestly when booking.
Are there limits on where we can sail?
You'll need to stay within Greek waters and can't take the yacht beyond them or sublet her without our written consent. Please also plan your route to reach your farthest point within the first third of the charter and be within about 40 nautical miles of the return base two days before the end.
Can we sail in any weather?
Please don't leave port or anchorage if the wind is, or is forecast to be, over force 6 on the Beaufort scale, if authorities have banned sailing, or whenever the safety of the yacht and crew is in doubt. Don't sail at night without all navigation lights working and a proper watch on deck.
Is racing or towing other boats allowed?
No. The yacht is for the private pleasure of you and your party only, with no racing and no towing other craft except in an emergency. Only people on the crew manifest may be aboard, up to the agreed maximum, including at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member.
What should we do if there's damage or a breakdown at sea?
Report any accident or damage to the nearest port authority so it can be recorded, and notify us at the same time. Get our consent before any repair; genuine wear-and-tear repairs are refunded against receipts at the end of the charter.
