Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Boat delivered with comprehensive (kasko) insurance for Mediterranean up to total loss with deductible covered by deposit, and third-party liability insurance required by law.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can we bring pets on board?
No, animals are not permitted on board at any time. Please plan to leave your pets at home for this charter.
Where are we allowed to sail?
The detailed nautical charts we provide cover the recommended cruising area: the Ligurian Sea, the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the coasts of Corsica and Sardinia. If you plan to sail beyond this, you must equip yourselves with detailed charts for those areas.
Can the boat be used for racing or towing?
No. You may not take part in regattas or other nautical events, and you may not tow or be towed by other vessels except in a genuine emergency. The boat is for private recreational use only.
Are there weather limits on when we can sail?
Yes. You must respect any port-authority ban for bad weather, and you should not sail in winds above force 6 or whenever forecasts warn of dangerous conditions. Plan your itinerary so you can return on time and bring the return forward if bad weather is expected.
Do we need to check in with you during the trip?
Yes, please contact us at least once a week to report your position. You should also anchor in safe spots, keep continuous watch over the boat, and choose sails suited to the wind.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
