Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Organizer recommends participants take European Health Insurance Card, insurance for Medical Costs and Consequences of Accidents, and insurance for cancellation costs. Participant can arrange insurance independently.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~74 HP engine burn roughly 5.9 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 124 L ≈ €232 at €1.87/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Croatia?
At least one crew member must hold a recognised sailing licence (ICC or national equivalent) plus a VHF/SRC radio operator certificate, both checked on arrival.
Who is the crew and what do they do?
Two crew members sail with you: a skipper and a deck hand or cook. The cook prepares breakfast and dinner, though the ingredients for those meals aren't included in the cook's fee. The crew fee is paid in cash on the day you board.
Will I be expected to help sail the boat?
Yes, this is a hands-on cruise. You'll be asked to take part in yacht handling such as navigation watches and manoeuvres, help prepare meals and keep the boat tidy, and attend the mandatory safety and basic handling training on the first day.
Can I drink alcohol on board?
For safety, alcohol is not allowed until the sailing day is over, and intoxicating substances are banned entirely. Please also note that red wine, beetroot and other staining foods aren't permitted on board because of the untreated wood inside.
Can I bring my pet?
Pets aren't accepted on these cruises, so please make other arrangements for your animals.
Do I need to be able to swim?
You should be comfortable swimming. If you're not, you'll need to wear a life jacket on board at all times, and children up to age five should have their own life jacket or safety device.
When is the best time to sail in Croatia?
May–October, with the most reliable maestral winds and warm seas in June–September; July–August are the hottest and busiest.
