Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer responsible for repair of any damage or failure occurring during charter that does not result from normal and natural wear.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~100 HP engines burn roughly 8 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 168 L ≈ €328 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
How many people can come aboard?
You can sail with a maximum of 10 people on board at sea, and a minimum of 2. Only those listed on the crew and passenger manifest may stay aboard.
Do you check our sailing experience?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your competence by actually handling the yacht at sea with us aboard. If we are not satisfied, we can place an experienced crew member on board at your expense for as long as needed for safety.
Are there limits on where we can sail?
Yes. The yacht must stay within Greek waters, and we ask that you avoid leaving port or anchorage when the wind is or is forecast to be over Beaufort 6, when a sailing ban is in place, or when any vital equipment is not in good working order. Night sailing requires all navigation lights working and a sufficient watch on deck.
Is there an itinerary requirement?
Yes. Please plan your cruise so you reach your furthest port within the first third of the charter, and so that in the final two days you are no more than 40 nautical miles from the return point.
Can we use the yacht for racing or towing?
No. The yacht is for your private pleasure only, so racing and towing other craft are not allowed except in a genuine emergency.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
