Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: Yacht and equipment insured under Greek Legislation against fire, marine, collision risks and third-party liability. Charterer relieved of liability covered by policy unless caused by charterer's act or negligence.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
What is the boat allowed to be used for?
The yacht is for your private pleasure cruising only. It may not be used to carry paying passengers, to race (unless agreed in writing), to tow other craft except in an emergency, or to be sublet without our written consent.
Where are we allowed to sail?
The cruising area is Greece unless we agree otherwise in writing. You shouldn't take the yacht outside that area.
Is there a check on our sailing experience?
Yes. Your crew must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced sailor, and we may ask you to demonstrate your competence by sailing the yacht with our representative aboard. If you can't satisfy us, we may place a skipper on board at your expense.
Are there limits on sailing in rough weather?
Yes. You must not leave port if the wind is, or is forecast to be, above force 6 on the Beaufort scale, or if the port authorities have banned sailing, or if any vital part of the yacht isn't in good working order.
Can we sail at night?
You may not sail at night without all navigation lights working and a sufficient watch on deck, and you should only sail in areas properly covered by the charts on board.

When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
