Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Owner insures yacht against fire, marine, collision risks, third party damage and loss/damage in excess of: Cats 44-48 ft: €2,500; Monos 43-54 ft, Cats 39-43 ft: €2,000; Monos 36-42 ft, Cats 38 ft: €1,750.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where are we allowed to sail?
Cruising is along the Turkish coast, and you may only go beyond Turkish waters with our written agreement. Please plan your route so your furthest point is reached in the first third of the charter, returning to within about 20 nautical miles of the handover marina in the final 24 hours.
Can we race the boat or tow other craft?
The yacht is for your private pleasure only, so racing requires our agreement and towing other vessels is not allowed except in an emergency.
What happens in bad weather?
For safety, please do not leave port or anchorage when the wind is at or forecast above Beaufort force 6, when authorities have prohibited sailing, or whenever the condition of the boat, crew or weather makes safety doubtful. Sailing at night requires all navigation lights working and a proper watch on deck.
Might we be asked to show our sailing experience?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate competence by handling the yacht at sea with us aboard. If you are not an experienced sailor, you should appoint a qualified skipper, and your party should include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member.
What condition should the boat be returned in?
Please return the yacht cleaned up at the agreed marina, with all equipment in the same good condition as at handover.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
