Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Yacht has liability and hull insurance. Deductible per claim equals security deposit.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included, and on a powerboat it's the biggest variable cost. At a typical planing cruise this boat's 115 HP engine burn roughly 17 L/h — about €30 an hour at €1.75/L. It depends heavily on speed: easing off the throttle cuts it sharply, running flat out raises it. Plan your fuel around the hours and speed you expect to cruise.
Do I need a sailing licence in Switzerland?
Valid navigation certification/credentials must be held and carried during charter.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You may use the boat only on the lakes of Biel, Murten and Neuchatel and their connecting canals, staying outside the restricted zones marked on the chart you are given.
Can I bring pets on board?
Pets are allowed only by prior arrangement with us. Please note that if the boat is excessively soiled, for example by pets, an extra charge may apply on top of the agreed final cleaning fee.
Might my experience be checked before I take the boat?
Yes. If we find that your or your crew's experience is insufficient, we reserve the right to cancel or amend the booking. You confirm that you have the seamanship and enough experience to handle the yacht in the planned area.
When must I stay in a sheltered harbour because of the weather?
If winds of force 5 on the Beaufort scale or more are forecast, you must not leave a sheltered harbour without our agreement.
Are there rules about how I use the boat?
You may not take part in any sporting competitions or races, and you may use the yacht for training trips or cabin charter only after consulting us. Please also stay fit to sail and keep any alcohol below the legal limit of 0.5 per mille.
