Bold Island

Bold Island is a 2.8-acre largely treeless island sitting just over a mile east-southeast of Stonington's town landing — drop anchor off its shores and dinghy in for a classic Maine picnic stop. With open skies and few trees blocking the view, it's a rare spot where you can take in the surrounding archipelago without much in the way of shade or shelter. Stonington itself is close enough (about 2.5 miles) that you can easily make a run in by tender if you want to explore the town.
