Ensenada de los Muertos — 'Bay of the Dead' — sounds ominous but delivers one of the more quietly beautiful anchorages on the eastern Baja coast, with a wide sweeping bay backed by rugged desert hills. You can drop the hook here and spend your time swimming in calm, clear water, hiking into the surrounding terrain, or grabbing a meal at the small restaurant ashore that even has wifi. It sits off the road toward San Juan de los Planes, keeping it low-key and well off the beaten path.
