Port Lauragais has a pretty unusual backstory — it was carved out of a gravel quarry left behind from constructing the A61 motorway, then opened in 1979 as a marina connected to the Canal du Midi. The result is a calm, tucked-away pocket of water that feels surprisingly peaceful given its motorway origins.
