Spiaggia dell'Asino sits on the southern tip of Vulcano island, where you drop anchor off a small stretch of dark, fine-grained volcanic sand that gives the whole place an exotic, otherworldly feel. The beach is compact and backed by lush, protected natural landscape, keeping it quieter than busier spots in the Aeolians. If you head ashore, the scenic road up toward Vulcano Piano passes views of the crater — well worth the trip.
