Skansen

Skansen is Tromsø's oldest site, where an 18th-century wooden customs house from 1789 sits on top of what are actually the remnants of medieval fortifications — layers of history stacked right on the harbor. The circular grassy ramparts and the small cluster of historic buildings around the plateau give it a quietly unique feel you won't find anywhere else in the city. Well worth a wander if you're curious about what Tromsø looked like long before it became a proper town.
