Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theatre

Teatro Giuseppe Verdi is Salerno's grand historic theatre, inaugurated in 1872 with a performance of Rigoletto and still going strong today. What makes it special is its 19th-century wooden interior — four tiers of boxes plus a gallery — one of the few examples of this kind of structure still perfectly preserved in Italy. It has an intimate, old-world elegance that larger opera houses simply can't replicate, fitting up to 800 people at Largo Luciani.
