Chiesa di San Giovanni di Sinis

One of the oldest churches in Sardinia still actively in use, San Giovanni di Sinis dates back to the 5th-6th century AD and sits on ground that was sacred long before Christianity — first a pagan necropolis, then an early Christian burial site. Built from warm golden stone, it's a remarkably intact piece of late antique architecture that most people drive right past on their way to the nearby ruins of Tharros. The layers of history here are genuinely dizzying — Punic, Roman, early Christian, all stacked beneath your feet.
