Gradina Fortress

Gradina Fortress above Vrgorac is part of a chain of strategic hilltop forts across the Dalmatian Hinterland, with its oldest section being a square battlement tower built directly on natural rock — the former residence of medieval lords and later Ottoman occupiers. The site layers history dramatically, sitting alongside a Roman town's eastern walls and incorporating a church with an unusual ground plan built right over Roman-era remains. It's the kind of place where you can physically feel the weight of every civilization that fought to hold this ground.
