Mrs Macquarie's Chair

You'll discover this historic sandstone bench carved by convicts in 1810 positioned at one of Sydney's most spectacular harbour viewpoints. Located just north of the Royal Botanic Gardens, the chair was specially created for Governor Lachlan Macquarie's wife Elizabeth, who would sit here to watch ships sail in and out of the harbour. The landmark offers unparalleled panoramic views of Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and the sparkling waters beyond, making it one of the city's most photographed spots.
