Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer advised to arrange independent personal, medical, and travel insurance; Shipowner insures Vessel against fire, marine, collision, and third-party liability per Greek law; insurance does not cover pre-existing damage, blocked toilets, loss of dinghy/outboard, loss of…
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there restrictions on how I use the boat?
The boat is for private leisure use only. You may not race, tow another vessel (except in an emergency), sublet, carry more people than the licence permits, or sail after sunset, and you should sail within Greek waters unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Will you check our sailing ability before departure?
We may ask you to give a practical demonstration of your seamanship before you set off, with this time counting as part of the charter. If we are not satisfied with the competence on board, we can appoint a skipper at your cost.
What should I do in bad weather?
Please do not leave port if winds exceed Force 6 Beaufort (above 24 knots) or sailing is prohibited. Reef in good time, avoid carrying too much sail, and stay out of uncharted waters.
What happens if the boat breaks down during our trip?
Tell us in writing within office hours (10:00 to 18:00) straight away. If a machinery breakdown not caused by you prevents use for more than 24 hours in the Saronic Gulf (or 48 hours in the Cyclades and Eastern Peloponnese), you may claim a pro-rata refund or an equivalent extension.
How should I plan my route and return the boat?
Plan your itinerary so you reach your turnaround point within the first third of the charter, stay within 40 nautical miles of the base two days before the end, and berth at the home port by 17:00 on the day before disembarkation. Return the boat clean and in the same condition you received it.
