Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: All boats insured with Third Party and CASCO policy with deductibles. Standard security deposit required even if clients have personal insurance from third-party companies.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~80 HP engines burn roughly 6.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 134 L ≈ €229 at €1.71/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Spain?
A recognised sailing licence is required, with an ICC typically requested for non-Spanish skippers chartering a bareboat.
Can we bring a pet on board?
Yes, we are pet-friendly and you may bring one pet per charter for an extra cleaning fee. We cannot always accept every breed or size, so please get our written confirmation before booking. An anti-allergic clean after a pet is 150 euros.
Are there weather limits while sailing?
Yes. For your safety and to keep insurance valid, you must not leave harbour when the wind exceeds Force 6 on the Beaufort scale. Sailing under the influence of alcohol or drugs also voids the cover.
Does the insurance ever not apply?
The insurance will not apply if you return the boat without refuelling, sail under the influence of alcohol or drugs, breach the bareboat safety rules such as the Force 6 limit, or incur fines during the charter. Any such costs fall to you.
What happens to our security deposit if we damage the boat heavily?
If you cause damage worth more than half the deposit during the charter, we may ask you to top the deposit back up to its original amount, or we may stop the charter. Damages above the full deposit can also be claimed from you afterwards.
How do vouchers work?
Any voucher we issue is valid until its expiry date. You can extend it by emailing us in writing before it expires or within six months afterwards; claims made more than six months after expiry cannot be accepted.
When is the best time to sail in Spain?
April–October across the Balearics and Costa Brava; reliable warm summers, busiest in July–August with the occasional afternoon thermal breeze.
