Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: All yachts are fully insured against damage to hull, gear and equipment, and for third-party liability, according to Greek legislation. The insurance does not cover the charterer's personal belongings or personal injuries.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~40 HP engines burn roughly 3.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 67 L ≈ €131 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for your private pleasure only. Racing, towing other boats (except in an emergency) and subletting without our written consent are not allowed. You also can't take the boat outside Greek seas or carry anyone who isn't on your crew/passenger list.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your group needs a qualified skipper plus an experienced crew member, and at least two people with a sailing certificate or sufficient experience as we judge it from your sailing resume. If we're not satisfied with your competence at handover, we may place a skipper aboard at your expense, or end the agreement.
How many people can come aboard?
You can't exceed the boat's maximum number of persons (PAX) in its documents. Only people on your crew/passenger manifest can stay aboard.
What condition should I return the boat in?
Please bring it back cleaned-up, with all its equipment, in the same good condition as when you took it over. Return it to the agreed port at the agreed time.
What happens if I return late, or if bad weather delays me?
Returning late, including because of weather, means paying a daily charge of the daily charter price plus 50% for each day or part of a day. So plan your route to be back on time, and don't sail when conditions are doubtful.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
