Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Vessel must be adequately insured against legal liability, hull damage and theft. Insurance covers only use in agreed sailing area.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included, and on a powerboat it's the biggest variable cost. At a typical planing cruise this boat's 75 HP engine burn roughly 11 L/h — about €22 an hour at €2.00/L. It depends heavily on speed: easing off the throttle cuts it sharply, running flat out raises it. Plan your fuel around the hours and speed you expect to cruise.
Do I need a sailing licence in Netherlands?
A Klein Vaarbewijs is required for vessels over 15 m or capable of more than 20 km/h; the ICC and equivalents are recognised.
Is there an age or experience requirement to charter?
You need enough sailing skill to handle the boat safely. If you do not hold a relevant CWO sailing certificate or an equivalent we accept, you must be at least 18 years old (this age limit does not apply to open sailing or motor boats).
What happens in bad weather?
For the safety of the boat, we may instruct you not to set out, to return to the marina, or to head straight to a mooring spot we designate, for example because of bad weather or excessive alcohol or drug use on board.
Are there rules about alcohol and drugs on board?
Yes. You must make sure that anyone needed to crew the boat avoids excessive use of alcohol or drugs while underway, so the boat is always handled safely.
What condition should we return the boat in?
Please hand the boat back at the agreed time and place in the same condition you received it, with the full inventory aboard. You may not modify the boat or let anyone else use it without our written permission.
What if something needs repairing during our trip?
Please get our approval before arranging any repair. We will reimburse approved repair costs against itemised receipts, and routine maintenance and normal defects are at our expense.
When is the best time to sail in Netherlands?
April–October on the IJsselmeer, Wadden Sea and Zeeland; breezy, changeable conditions with long daylight in mid-summer.
