Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: THEA insured yacht against fire, bad sea conditions, collision, damages from third parties and natural events for partial or complete loss. Guest also liable for damage from breach of contract, negligence or intent.
Do I need a sailing licence in Turkey?
No licence is required by Turkish law, but charter companies require proof of competence such as an ICC or RYA Day Skipper certificate.
Will you check our sailing competence?
We may. The operator or a representative can ask you and your crew to demonstrate your sailing competence with a short test. If we aren't convinced, we may offer a captain and crew you'd also need to agree to, and can hold departure until they're aboard, with their pay and costs falling to you.
Are there limits on where we can sail?
Yes. You should stay within the Aegean and Mediterranean sea limits, plan to reach the farthest port within the first third of your trip, and be no more than 40 miles from the return port two days before arrival.
Are there things we're not allowed to do with the yacht?
You may not use the yacht for racing or for towing other craft except in an emergency, carry anyone not declared at departure, sublet it, or hand it to third parties. It's for leisure use with an experienced crew within the listed number of people.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Departure may not be allowed if the wind is, or will soon be, force 6 or more on the Beaufort scale, or if the authorities have banned sailing. Please trim sail to the conditions, don't risk the sails in gusts, and never sail at night without all navigation lights on and a lookout.
What if the yacht needs repairs during our trip?
Tell us immediately. We'll first try to send our own staff; if that isn't possible or would take too long, we'll suggest a nearby repairer. Repairs from normal wear are refunded against an invoice, while damage from misuse is your responsibility.
When is the best time to sail in Turkey?
April–October along the Turquoise Coast (Bodrum, Göcek, Fethiye); hot, dry summers with gentle afternoon breezes ideal for cruising.
