Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: The owner insures the yacht and equipment against fire, marine and collision risks and third-party damage according to Greek legislation. The charterer is relieved of liability covered by the policy, unless the loss was caused or contributed to by gross negligence or wilful…
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~60 HP engine burns roughly 4.8 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 101 L ≈ €197 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You must stay within Greek waters, as taking the yacht outside the Greek seas isn't permitted. You also need to plan your route so you reach your farthest port within the first third of the charter and are within 40 nautical miles of the return point two days before it ends.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member while at sea. You also confirm your competence in writing, and we may ask you to show your handling and navigation skills on a short sail with us aboard. If we're not satisfied, we may place a seaman on board at your expense or end the agreement.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The yacht is for the private pleasure of you and your party only. Racing, towing other craft (except in an emergency), subletting without our written consent, and carrying anyone not on your crew list are not allowed. Night sailing is only permitted with all navigation lights working and a sufficient watch on deck.
How many people can come aboard?
You can have up to the number of passengers shown in the yacht documents while at sea. Everyone aboard must be on your crew/passenger list.
What happens if bad weather affects my trip or my return?
You shouldn't leave port if the harbour authorities have banned sailing or if weather conditions make safety doubtful. If bad weather delays your return, the late-return charge still applies, which is the daily charter price plus 50% for each day or part of a day. So allow some margin before your return.
