Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: All boats are insured for third-party liability (rental without skipper) with a EUR 75 excess, and with full-risk RAS cover whose excess equals the security deposit. Sail damage is not covered unless it follows a broken mast.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~78 HP engine burns roughly 6.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 130 L ≈ €254 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I charter a skipper or hostess?
We no longer supply crew directly, except on the Dufour 48. When you book, we send you a list of freelance skippers and hostesses, and you agree terms with them directly.
Can I charter for less than a full week?
Yes. Short charters are priced as a share of the weekly rate: 2 days or a weekend 40%, 3 days 50%, 4 days 65%, 5 days 80% and 6 days 90%.
What if I want to start or finish on a different day or at another base?
Boarding or disembarking on other days or times, or at a base other than Cagliari, is possible for a surcharge. Ask us about the 'Extra' costs when you book.
Will someone show me the boat when I arrive?
We send video tutorials on the boat, the outboard engine and suggested itineraries when you book. A boarding attendant is also there at embarkation to answer questions. You then complete the inventory and the boat management procedures together, and repeat them when you disembark.
Can I use the boat for regattas?
Regattas and sailing events need an additional insurance policy, so please tell us in advance if you plan to take part in one.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
