Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer should insure against injury to or loss of life of persons on board prior to commencement date. Advice available from MYC.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~21 HP engine burn roughly 1.7 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 36 L ≈ €70 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in United Kingdom?
No licence is legally required to sail at sea, but charter companies expect an RYA Day Skipper certificate or equivalent (and an ICC for inland waterways).
Where am I allowed to sail?
You can cruise the UK South Coast. Please don't take the yacht outside this area, and note we may restrict the sailing area further if conditions warrant it.
Does the skipper need to prove experience?
Yes. The skipper must be over 25 and hold an International Certificate of Competence, Day Skipper certificate (or national equivalent) or higher, and carry the certificates aboard. We may decline to hand over the yacht if we feel the skipper isn't competent, and the boat may never be sailed single-handed.
Can I bring pets aboard?
No, we ask that you don't carry any animals on the yacht.
Are there any restrictions on how I use the yacht?
The yacht is for pleasure cruising only. Please no racing or night sailing without our consent, no smoking below decks, and don't sail in dangerously bad weather even if it means returning late.
What condition should the yacht be in when I return it?
Please leave the yacht clean and substantially in the same condition as at the start, free of personal belongings. If extra cleaning is needed we may charge for it, and any defects or incidents such as grounding should be reported to us.
