Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer must compensate owner for any damage to yacht and equipment in excess of normal wear and tear.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~29 HP engine burn roughly 2.3 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 48 L ≈ €92 at €1.91/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Norway?
A boating licence (Båtførerbevis or recognised equivalent such as an ICC including coastal navigation) is required for vessels over 8 m or 25 HP.
Where are we allowed to sail?
Your cruising area runs from Stavanger to the Sognefjorden. You can't sail offshore or beyond this area without our prior written consent.
Will our sailing skills be checked?
You'll need the knowledge and skills to handle the yacht, and we'll ask you to declare your sailing experience and crew list. If we have doubts we may ask you to demonstrate your skills on board, and if we're not satisfied we can place a competent sailor aboard at your cost.
What condition should we return the yacht in?
Please redeliver the yacht with the water and fuel tanks topped up, in good order. You'll be responsible for any damage beyond normal wear and tear and for replacing lost equipment such as winch handles, fenders and ropes.
Can we use the VHF radio?
A radio licence is required to use the VHF. Without a valid licence you may only use it in an emergency, and you cover any VHF charges.
What should we do if something is damaged or stolen?
Tell us immediately about any fire, theft, break-in or other insurance claim during your charter, and report theft or burglary to the nearest police too. For other damage, contact us so we can agree how to handle it; repairs must be pre-approved and done at an authorised workshop.
When is the best time to sail in Norway?
Late May–early September, with long daylight (midnight sun in the north) and cool, scenic fjord cruising; mild summer weather.
