Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: The owner insures the yacht and her equipment against fire, marine and collision risks, third party damage, and loss or damage above the stated insurance excess.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~80 HP engine burns roughly 6.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 134 L ≈ €261 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. The yacht is for private pleasure only, so no racing, no towing other craft except in an emergency, and no subletting without the operator's written consent. Fishing, customs and archaeological laws must be respected, and breaking them can end your charter.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You must stay within the cruising area named in your agreement. We also ask you to reach your farthest port within the first third of the charter and to be within 40 nautical miles of the return port two days before the end.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You shouldn't leave port or anchorage if the wind is, or is forecast to be, over Beaufort 6, or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. The same applies whenever conditions or the state of the boat or crew make safety doubtful. Please also don't sail at night without working navigation lights and a proper watch.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member. We may ask you to show your handling skills on a short sail with us aboard, and if the check isn't passed we can end the agreement or place a seaman aboard at your cost.
How many people can come aboard?
Only the people on your crew/passenger manifest, and no more than the maximum number stated in your agreement, may be aboard at sea.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
