Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: The owner insures the yacht under Greek law N.2743/99: at least EUR 300,000 for death or personal injury of guests and third parties, at least EUR 150,000 for third-party material damage, and at least EUR 90,000 for sea pollution.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Can I bring my dog on board?
Animals and pets can only come aboard with the operator's written consent, so ask before you book. Without that consent, no pets are allowed.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for your own private pleasure and that of your party. Racing and towing other boats are not allowed, except in an emergency. Only the people on your crew list may be aboard, and you can't sub-let the yacht.
Can I sail at night?
No, night sailing is not allowed except in an emergency. We also ask you to average about 6 hours a day under way, unless the captain agrees to more.
What happens if bad weather affects my trip?
For safety, you must not leave port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be above Beaufort 6, or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. You'll need to wait it out. Please also note we can't promise comfort in rough weather.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You can cruise within Greek waters, with a small allowance outside: 2 miles north of Corfu, 2 miles west of the Ionian islands and 2 miles south of Zakynthos. Plan your route so you reach your farthest port within the first third of the trip, and stay within 40 nautical miles of the return port two days before the end.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
