Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The Owner insures the yacht and equipment against fire, marine and collision risks and third-party damage, and against loss or damage above an excess amount (blank in the text).
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for the private pleasure of you and your party only. Racing, towing other craft (except in an emergency) and subletting without the operator's written consent are not allowed. Illegal fishing and taking archaeological objects are also prohibited.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You must stay within the Greek seas. You should plan your route to reach the farthest port within the first third of your charter and be within 40 nautical miles of the return point two days before the end.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You shouldn't leave a port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be above Beaufort 6, or if the harbour authorities have banned sailing. Sailing at night is only allowed with all navigation lights working and a proper watch on deck.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member. We may ask you and your crew to show your skills with a sea test, and if we're not satisfied, we can require an additional seaman at your expense or terminate the charter.
How many people can come aboard?
Only the people on your crew/passenger manifest may be aboard, up to the maximum number of passengers stated for the boat in your charter agreement.
