Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The owner has a comprehensive policy covering damage to the boat, its accessories and engine, total and partial theft, hijacking, and third-party civil liability (material and bodily harm). The premium is included in the rental price.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~150 HP engines burn roughly 12 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 252 L ≈ €426 at €1.69/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Seychelles?
Not personally — a skipper is included with this boat and holds the licence. Generally, though: A recognised sailing licence such as an ICC or IYT qualification is required, together with an adequate sailing résumé.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for pleasure sailing only. Commercial use, professional fishing, transport, regattas, subletting and lending it to others are not allowed, and you would be liable for any fines or confiscation that result.
Can I sail at night?
In the Caribbean, Seychelles and Polynesia, night sailing is strictly forbidden unless we give you a special written waiver beforehand. Elsewhere, the terms do not set this restriction.
What if the crew doesn't seem experienced enough?
We can refuse to hand over the boat if the skipper or crew don't appear competent, even if you hold certificates or permits. In that case you can either pay for a professional skipper or the contract is cancelled without refund.
How many people can come aboard?
Only the authorized number of persons for the boat may be on board. Anyone under 18 needs written authorization from a parent or guardian.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
For minor wear-and-tear problems you can repair or replace items straight away if the cost is no more than 10% of the security deposit, and keep the invoice for reimbursement on return if it wasn't your fault. For bigger repairs, contact us first.
When is the best time to sail in Seychelles?
Year-round; the calmer northwest-monsoon season runs October–April and the breezier southeast trades April–October.
