Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Yacht insured under 'All risk' policy with deductible equal to security deposit. Third party liability insurance compulsory by law.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~30 HP engine burn roughly 2.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 50 L ≈ €98 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Where can we sail?
The recommended cruising area covers the Aeolian Islands, the Egadi Islands, and the coast of Sicily. If you would like to venture beyond that, just ask us in writing first and use up-to-date charts for the area.
Are there activities or uses that are not allowed?
Yes. The boat is for your private use only, with no chartering passengers or commercial activity, no taking part in regattas, and no towing or water-sports such as water skiing, windsurfing, or kitesurfing, even from the dinghy.
What are the rules in bad weather?
Please follow any restrictions from the maritime authorities and do not sail in conditions worse than force 5 Beaufort, even if rough weather is only forecast at short notice. Plan your itinerary so you can return on time even if the weather turns.
Can we bring a pet on board?
Pets are welcome only if we have agreed to it in advance, so please ask us before you arrive with an animal.
What should we do if something breaks while we are sailing?
Let us know straightaway and only keep sailing if it is safe to do so. Please do not carry out repairs without our written go-ahead; we can arrange assistance during the day, between 8am and 8pm.
About Porto di Castellammare del Golfo
Tucked into the northwest corner of Sicily, this marina doubles as a working fishing port, so you'll find yourself surrounded by local boats, fresh catch, and the kind of unglamorous authenticity that's hard to find. Read more →
