Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: The boat carries obligatory third-party liability insurance and Casco (hull) insurance. The lessee, crew and their personal belongings are not insured, and insuring them is recommended.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~40 HP engine burns roughly 3.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 67 L ≈ €125 at €1.87/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Croatia?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: At least one crew member must hold a recognised sailing licence (ICC or national equivalent) plus a VHF/SRC radio operator certificate, both checked on arrival.
Can I bring my dog on board?
Pets are only allowed with the owner's prior written agreement. Please tell us before you confirm your booking so we can arrange it.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You can cruise within Croatian territorial waters. If you want to leave them, you need prior written agreement from us and the owner, plus all the necessary licences and documents. Please also don't sail in areas that your charts don't properly cover.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
For safety you must not leave a port or anchorage when the wind is or is forecast to be over 30 knots, or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. Bad weather is generally not accepted as a reason for returning late, so we suggest checking forecasts regularly and returning a day early.
What experience does the person driving the boat need?
Before handover the owner may ask to see proof that your skipper is qualified and ask them to demonstrate steering and boat handling. If they refuse or aren't judged competent, the owner can cancel the charter and refund 80% of the rental fee.
What should I do if something breaks during my trip?
Report it straight away to the owner using the phone numbers in the boat's documents, and note it in the boat's journal. Agree repairs with the owner first, as unauthorised repairs are at your cost. If you can't reach the owner, contact us and we'll pass it on.
