Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: Lessee and Captain are jointly responsible for any contract violations and must indemnify Lessor for any requests or events during rental period.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~30 HP engine burn roughly 2.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 50 L ≈ €98 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Where are we allowed to sail?
You may use the boat only within Italian territorial waters and the area defined in your contract, moving between safe ports and landings where the boat can enter, stay and leave safely. You must not leave Italian waters without our authorisation.
What should we do in bad weather?
Please plan your cruise to return on time and head back early if poor weather is forecast. You should not leave port, or should return to the nearest port or safe shelter, if sea and wind conditions reach or are expected to reach force 7 on the Beaufort scale.
Could we be asked to prove the skipper's competence?
Yes. We may ask the person commanding the boat to hold the proper authorisations, and if we judge their knowledge and skills insufficient for the boat and the safety of those on board, we may require a trusted skipper of ours at your expense; declining ends the contract.
Can we bring pets, race the boat, or tow another vessel?
No pets are allowed on board. You may take part in regattas or nautical competitions only with our written consent, and you must not tow or be towed by another boat except in a genuine emergency.
What happens if the boat breaks down during our trip?
Please notify us of any breakdown or accident in writing within 24 hours. If a fault not caused by you prevents reasonable use for more than 48 hours in Italian waters (72 hours abroad), we will refund the daily rate for the lost days, and you may withdraw if repairs exceed 96 hours.
