Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The vessel is insured during the charter against accidental damage, including damage to third parties. The insurance does not cover theft or loss of personal belongings, personal accidents on board, intentional acts, or violations of the rules governing use of the vessel.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
What sailing experience does my crew need?
You or a designated crew member must have real experience with similar boats and routes, and be able to command the vessel safely. If we judge your experience insufficient, we may cancel or change the charter, but you can propose taking a professional skipper instead, at your cost and for the whole charter period.
Can I go out in bad weather?
No. You must not leave port or anchorage when winds of force 6 on the Beaufort scale or higher are present or forecast. You must also follow our routing instructions and any warnings from port or maritime authorities.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. The boat can't be used for paid trips, commercial activity, subletting or towing, and you need our prior approval to enter a regatta or sail double-handed or single-handed. You must also stay within the agreed navigation limits and out of protected or restricted areas.
How many people can come aboard?
The limit is the maximum number of passengers shown on the boat's certification plate. You must respect it, and you need to give us a crew list with names and ID details before departure.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell the base or us right away and confirm it in writing within 24 hours. Please don't arrange repairs without our written authorization, except in an emergency, and keep all receipts. If the boat is unusable through no fault of yours for more than 48 hours in Italian waters or 72 hours elsewhere, you are reimbursed for the unused days.
