Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The owner insures the yacht and her equipment as required by Greek law, against fire, marine and collision risks, third-party damage and loss or damage. The owner is not liable for loss of personal property or for injury to the charterer or anyone aboard with his permission.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You must stay within Greek seas unless we agree otherwise in writing. Plan your route so the farthest port is reached within the first third of the charter, and so that two days before the end you are within 40 nautical miles of the return point.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced sailor. We may ask you and your crew to show your competence at sea with us aboard. If you don't pass, we may place a skipper aboard at your expense or end the charter.
What happens if bad weather affects my trip?
Please don't leave port or anchorage if wind is, or is forecast to be, above Beaufort 6, or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. Safety comes first. Be aware that if bad weather makes you return late, the late-return charge still applies.
What happens if I return late?
For each day or part of a day you are late, you pay the daily charter price plus 50%, whatever the reason, weather included. If you leave the yacht at a different place, you also cover the cost of moving it back.
What should I do if something breaks or I have an accident?
Contact us before arranging repairs, because we need to approve them. Repairs for damage you cause are at your cost, while repairs for normal wear are refunded against receipts. After an accident, ask the nearest port authority to record it in writing and tell us at once.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
