Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Boat insurance covers all maritime risks including third party liability. Major damages/accidents must be reported within 12 hours to Maritime Officials (Harbor Captain or Police) and Charter base (legal obligation), otherwise Insurance company will not admit case.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~40 HP engine burn roughly 3.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 67 L ≈ €125 at €1.87/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Croatia?
At least one crew member must hold a recognised sailing licence (ICC or national equivalent) plus a VHF/SRC radio operator certificate, both checked on arrival.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You should sail within Croatian territorial waters; venturing beyond them needs our written permission. The boat is for private use only, so no chartering on to others, no regattas and no commercial use or professional fishing.
Could my sailing ability be tested before departure?
Yes. If your sailing and navigational skills seem uncertain we may test your practical knowledge. If you don't have the required ability we can provide a skipper for an extra fee.
Are there weather limits on sailing?
For safety you should not leave port or anchorage when the wind is, or is forecast to be, above force 7 on the Beaufort scale (about 30 knots), when the authorities have prohibited sailing, or whenever conditions make safety doubtful. Reduce sail promptly as conditions require.
What condition should I return the boat in?
Please return the boat in the same clean, tidy, seaworthy and fully equipped condition you received it, with a full fuel tank and an empty waste tank. Report any defects during check-in so they can be noted.
What if I return the boat late?
If you return after the agreed time without prior agreement, a penalty applies from your deposit: up to three hours late costs half a day's price, three to five hours costs a full day, and longer delays may involve contacting the authorities. Please let us know as early as possible if you expect to be delayed.
When is the best time to sail in Croatia?
May–October, with the most reliable maestral winds and warm seas in June–September; July–August are the hottest and busiest.
