Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The operator insures the craft for the lease term with an estimated hull policy covering particular damage and 4/4 third-party claims, plus third-party civil liability cover. The guest may ask for copies of the policies before boarding.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~80 HP engines burn roughly 6.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 134 L ≈ €261 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring my dog or other pets on board?
No. We don't allow animals of any kind on board.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for recreational use only. You can't use it for regattas or competitions, sports activities, teaching, diving support, carrying paying passengers or goods, or any trade. Towing is allowed only in an absolute emergency, and weapons, explosives and drugs are not allowed on board.
How many people can come aboard?
You need to have at least the minimum crew for the boat and you can't exceed the maximum number of people it is allowed to carry. Both limits are set out in the boat's details.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
We expect you to stay in port or at a safe anchorage whenever the authorities prohibit navigation, or when weather, sea state, the boat's condition or your crew make it unsafe to go out.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell us promptly and agree any repair with us, as we must authorise repairs in writing. We cover repairs for hidden defects and normal wear and tear. If you or your guests caused the damage, the cost falls to you.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
