Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: The owner insures the yacht and equipment against fire, marine and collision risks and third party damage, and against loss or damage above an excess amount (left blank in the text).
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You must stay within the Greek seas. You also need to plan your route so you reach your farthest port within the first third of the charter and are within 40 nautical miles of the return point two days before the end.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your group must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member. We may ask you to demonstrate your handling of the yacht at sea before departure. If we aren't satisfied, we can place a seaman aboard at your expense or end the agreement.
Can I sail in strong winds?
For safety, you shouldn't leave a port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be above Beaufort 6, or if the harbor authorities have banned sailing. Please also avoid night sailing unless all navigation lights work and you keep a proper watch.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Contact the operator promptly with the yacht's position, condition and details of the problem, and get our consent before arranging any repair. For failures due to normal wear, we have up to 36 hours to repair the yacht after your notice.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The yacht is for private pleasure only, so no racing, towing other boats (except in an emergency) or subletting. Only people listed on your crew/passenger manifest may be aboard, and activities such as illegal fishing or removing archaeological objects are not allowed.
