Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer responsible for damages not caused by normal wear
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Does my crew need any minimum experience?
Yes. Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member, and everyone aboard must appear on the crew and passenger manifest.
Could we be asked to demonstrate our sailing competence?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to show you can handle and navigate the yacht safely by taking her out with our representative aboard. If we are not satisfied we can place a seaman on board at your cost for as long as we feel is needed; this time counts as part of your charter.
Are there limits on where I can sail?
You are asked to stay within the Greek seas unless we give written consent otherwise. The boat may not be used for racing, sub-let, or used to tow other craft except in an emergency.
When must I stay in port for weather?
Please do not leave a port or anchorage if the wind is, or is forecast to be, over Beaufort force 6, if the authorities have banned sailing, or if any vital part of the yacht is not in good working order. We also ask you not to sail at night without all navigation lights working and a proper watch on deck.
Are there any rules about planning my route?
Yes. Please plan your itinerary so you reach the farthest point from base within the first third of the charter, and in the final two days keep the yacht within 40 nautical miles of the return point.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
