Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: Guests can optionally take a damage waiver (deductible buy-back) for better protection in case of a major problem at sea.
Do I need a sailing licence in France?
Not personally — this boat requires a skipper, who holds the licence. Generally, though: No formal licence is legally required to skipper a bareboat sailing yacht, though charter companies expect a sailing résumé and usually an ICC or equivalent.
What luggage should I bring?
Please pack soft bags rather than hard suitcases, as suitcases are too bulky to stow on board.
What if something breaks during my charter?
Call the base and we'll step in. We commit to intervene if you call during working hours (8am to 5pm local time) and you're near our coast. If you're further away, we'll work out a suitable solution together.
What condition should I return the boat in?
Before you arrive back, fill the water tank and empty the black water tank (never in the harbour, as it carries a fine). Take all your belongings, throw away the kitchen and bathroom rubbish, wash and dry the dishes, and put the bedding in the dirty-linen bag, with sheets separate from towels.
How far are popular destinations from the Cogolin base?
From Cogolin it's about 35 nm to Bormes-les-Mimosas, 37 nm to Cannes, 41 nm to Port-Cros/Porquerolles and 57 nm to Nice. Monaco is 70 nm, Corsica 90 nm and the Balearic Islands 220 nm.
What happens at the handover briefing?
Our team takes you aboard for 1 to 2 hours, depending on the model. They show you the safety equipment, rigging and winches, engine and manoeuvring, the tender, appliances, water systems, VHF and electronics, charts and anchorages.

When is the best time to sail in France?
April–October on the Riviera and Corsica; warm summers with the gusty Mistral funnelling down the Gulf of Lion in spring and autumn.
