Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The operator must adequately insure the vessel for the guest's benefit against third-party liability, hull damage and theft. The insurance only applies within the agreed sailing area.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included, and on a powerboat it's the biggest variable cost. Estimated from engine power: at a typical planing cruise this boat's 120 HP engine burns roughly 18 L/h — about €36 an hour at €2.00/L. It depends heavily on speed: easing off the throttle cuts it sharply, running flat out raises it. Plan your fuel around the hours and speed you expect to cruise.
Do I need a sailing licence in Netherlands?
A Klein Vaarbewijs is required for vessels over 15 m or capable of more than 20 km/h; the ICC and equivalents are recognised.
What happens if bad weather hits during my trip?
If conditions are poor, we can tell you not to leave the marina, or to come back and head straight to a mooring we choose. Please follow these instructions, as they are there to protect you and the boat.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell us about any damage or problem as soon as possible. Please get our permission before arranging any repairs yourself, and keep itemised bills, because we reimburse approved repair costs. Normal maintenance and fixing defects are on us.
What condition should I return the boat in?
Return it at the agreed time and place in the same condition you received it. We record that condition together on a list you sign before departure, so check it and the inventory carefully at handover. If the boat isn't in that state, we can restore it at your cost, apart from what insurance covers.
What happens if I return late?
If you return the boat later than agreed, or somewhere other than the agreed place, we can charge a proportionally higher rental price plus any further damage this causes us. This doesn't apply if the delay wasn't your fault.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. Stay within the agreed sailing area and don't make changes to the boat. Don't lend it to anyone else without our written permission, and keep alcohol and drug use among your crew in check. Knowingly leaving the area or ignoring our instructions can make you personally liable for any resulting damage.
When is the best time to sail in Netherlands?
April–October on the IJsselmeer, Wadden Sea and Zeeland; breezy, changeable conditions with long daylight in mid-summer.
