Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The price includes the obligatory boat insurance and comprehensive insurance exceeding the deposit value. The yacht is insured against damage caused by third persons and against Acts of God up to the registered value, and the crew is insured.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included, and on a powerboat it's the biggest variable cost. Estimated from engine power: at a typical planing cruise this boat's 250 HP engine burns roughly 38 L/h — about €71 an hour at €1.87/L. It depends heavily on speed: easing off the throttle cuts it sharply, running flat out raises it. Plan your fuel around the hours and speed you expect to cruise.
Do I need a sailing licence in Croatia?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: At least one crew member must hold a recognised sailing licence (ICC or national equivalent) plus a VHF/SRC radio operator certificate, both checked on arrival.
Can I sail at night or in strong wind?
No. Night sailing is not allowed, and you must not leave a port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be over 20 knots or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. Bad weather is not accepted as a reason for returning late, so plan your last day with some margin.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You sail within the territorial waters of Croatia. If you want to go beyond them, you need to ask us for written permission before the reservation is confirmed. Also avoid areas your charts on board don't cover.
What experience does my crew need?
Someone on board must have the nautical knowledge and skills to handle the boat at sea. We may ask you to demonstrate this by sailing with our representative aboard, and that time counts as part of your charter.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. You can't sublet or lend the boat, use it commercially or for professional fishing, or enter it in races or competitions. You also can't carry more people than the boat is designed for or than are on your crew list.
What happens if I return late?
A delay of up to three hours costs an extra day's rent. Beyond three hours, each started calendar day is charged at triple the daily rate, plus any extra costs the delay causes us. Returning the evening before is a safe way to avoid this.
When is the best time to sail in Croatia?
May–October, with the most reliable maestral winds and warm seas in June–September; July–August are the hottest and busiest.
