Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: The vessel is insured by the operator. Insurance covers repair costs above the safety deposit amount, and the charterer covers repairs up to the deposit amount.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~21 HP engine burns roughly 1.7 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 36 L ≈ €67 at €1.87/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Croatia?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: At least one crew member must hold a recognised sailing licence (ICC or national equivalent) plus a VHF/SRC radio operator certificate, both checked on arrival.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. You can't use the boat for racing, commercial purposes, fishing for profit or sailing school, and you can't sublet it, lend it out or tow other vessels. We also ask that you stay out of restricted areas and keep the logbook up to date.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You need to stay within Croatian territorial waters. If you'd like to go beyond them, we must issue a written permit first.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
For safety, you must not leave port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be above Beaufort 7 (about 30 knots), or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. Reduce sail early as conditions change and only sail in good visibility.
Do I have to prove my sailing experience?
We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your competence by sailing the boat with one of our representatives aboard. If we're not satisfied, we may end the agreement or ask you to take a seaman aboard at your cost. The time for the test counts as part of your charter.
What should I do if something breaks or gets damaged?
Tell us immediately, and get our approval before arranging any repair. Keep your receipts, because repairs from normal wear and tear are refunded at the end of the charter. In serious accidents, also inform the port authorities and get a written report.
When is the best time to sail in Croatia?
May–October, with the most reliable maestral winds and warm seas in June–September; July–August are the hottest and busiest.
