Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: Personal property of the skipper and crew is not insured, so a separate insurance is recommended.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~40 HP engine burns roughly 3.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 67 L ≈ €131 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You must stay within Greek waters and follow all customs and local regulations. Sailing outside Greek waters isn't permitted.
Can I sail at night?
Yes, but only in safe weather conditions. Please plan your route and anchorages with this in mind.
What happens if bad weather delays my return?
If you can't continue sailing or will miss your return time, tell the base manager straight away for instructions. If bad weather causes the delay, any extra expenses are yours to cover, so we suggest planning your route with some margin.
What happens if I return the boat late?
A delay of up to 3 hours is charged at the price of a daily charter. Beyond 3 hours it is charged at double the daily charter fee. Only force majeure is tolerated as an excuse, and we need to be told immediately.
What if the operator thinks my skipper isn't experienced enough?
If the base manager decides the skipper's skills aren't sufficient, you may be asked to take a professional skipper on board at an extra charge. If you'd rather not skipper yourself, you can name another qualified person, who is then co-responsible towards us.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
